Hospitals and other health care providers can charge whatever they want to those who can afford it least, those with poor or no insurance. If you can't pay *up front*, you won't get treatment. Costs can be more than the price of a car if you go to the ER for heart pains, or more than a house if you have cancer. Hospitals benefit from non-profit (and non-taxed) status while raking in the money, and their executives are more highly paid than those at some banks. They can provide no justification for charging tens of times what their costs are, but they don't have to, because they have us over a barrel. We need transparency and fairness in pricing.
