I am a Virginian and I was infuriated to discover the confusing manner in which my state chooses to communicate legislative information. I then discovered to my horror that this is actually common practice among lawmakers.
Hiding behind a shroud of legalese is fundamentally dishonest and serves only to take the power away from the American people.
To say a bill that failed was "Passed by indefinitely" and to list the vote of the motion to kill it rather than the vote on the bill itself is deceptive and is clearly intended to make the legislative process more difficult for the common man to understand.
If lawmakers want to use their own ridiculous jargon for internal dealings that's fine, but they should be required to translate that information into plain, understandable English.
