force medical insurers to cover the cost of digital hearing aids.

Created by G.B. on December 17, 2012

Medical insurance does not cover the cost of hearing aids. Hearing aids are not considered "medically necessary", nor are they considered "Medical Equipment". Hearing aids are expensive and can cost up to $5000. Here's the irony in all of this...Medical insurance will pay for annual evaluations and even ear surgery to diagnose the underlying causes however, once diagnosed, they WILL NOT cover the cost of the hearing aids. Yes, even infants and young children can't get hearing aids. Imagine that! Imagine the linguistic, social and educational implications. Unless you are Medicaid Eligible, or have won a Purple Heart while in the Military (yes, that's really true!), hearing aids have to be purchased privately.
