In Major League Baseball, it is not uncommon for a player to make more than $15 million a year. 14 players in Major League baseball made at least $20 million with another 11 making between $17 million and $20 million. That's 25 players, enough for one whole team. Of the top 53 athletes who have signed the largest contracts, 33 of them have been baseball players. 10 are from the NFL, 2 from European soccer, 2 auto racers, 3 NHL players, and 11 NBA players.
My suggestion is to start the cap in 2014 and lower it for two years so teams have time to restructure contracts. In 2014, have the salary cap be at $106 million. 9 teams were above that in 2012. Once the year 2015 begins, lower the salary cap to $91 million. Then finally lower the Salary cap to $84 million in 2016.
