Recently, the USOC (US Olympic Committee) CEO, Scott Blackmun, suggested that all US athletes competing in the Russian Olympic games should follow all Russian laws, especially their newly enacted anti-GLBT legislation. Mr. Blackmun should be terminated from his position or force to apologize to all GLBT athletes for his comments and suggestions. No GLBT athlete participating in the Olympic games should be forced to hide who they are for fear of arrest or harm. The US needs to take a firm stance that they support all their athletes and will protect them from persecution.
