force Tennessee legislators to hold the City of Memphis Council liable for defaulting on government benefits agreements.

The City of Memphis Council members voted to reduce, or remove, employee health benefits from 25 to 30 year veteran Fire, Police, and EMS retirees. This came about when the State of Tennessee forced the city to perform a long overdue budget. Instead of cutting council member benefits or consolidating positions, they chose to remove the benefits from retirees, and those who can or did not work until they were 65 years of age. This is a catch twenty-two in itself, as the city does not allow more than 30 years of service, so, if you began employment at age 21, you can be no older than 51 when you retire. These budget cuts have left thousands of retirees with either no, or unaffordable, healthcare options and leaves the city vulnerable when current safety personnel don't have secured futures.
