First time home buyers who were given a “credit” in the form of an interest free loan in 2008, should have their debt forgiven and be returned any money already paid. These were the people who were first to help the economy and housing market begin to recover. They should be appreciated and repaid in the form of their debt being forgiven. Those who took advantage of this credit in 2009 and the following years are not required to repay if they remain in the home for 36 months. The only fair and just thing to do is to retroactively apply these same guidelines to the people who were the early adopters.
