We the people ask the federal government to Propose a new Administration policy:

Forgive Enlistment Bonuses Paid By Government Error

Created by R.W. on October 23, 2016

"Come fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we'll pay you an enlistment bonus" was the offer - but ten years later, the government to take it back - because the government made a mistake.

Thousands of servicemembers were overpaid through no fault of their own, typically spending it to support their families while they were in combat.

Now - years later - they are being ordered to pay it back - PLUS crippling penalties and interest.

Why?

They committed no fraud. They ACCEPTED an offer, and put their lives on the line. There should be no "tap-backs".

The President should *immediately* suspend collection of any overpayment of an enlistment bonus paid due to government error; Congress should *swiftly* forgive any such debt.

Or - they can just STFU about "support the troops".
