Forgive outstanding private and federal student loans while taxing the loan forgiveness as ordinary income over 10 years

Created by F.M. on November 30, 2012

Outstanding student loan debt has topped $1 Trillion in 2012. Washington is not doing anything to eliminate the crisis at hand. Let's force Washington to do something about this!

I petition that all student loan debt is forgiven and taxed as ordinary income over a period of 10 years. The taxpayer who has the loan(s) forgiven can pay the tax in 10 payments or as quickly as possible.

The goal is not for a handout but rather to stimulate the economy. The next set of home-buyers is trapped in debt paying thousands in interest each year. Help them get out of debt in order to revive a struggling housing market!
