forgive predatory student loan fees and penalties.

Created by T.C. on October 27, 2011

Student loans should be paid. They were there when we needed them, but we continue to pay unchallenged fees and penalties with ballooning interest without making a dent in the actual loan amount. After a year of on-time, 10- percent payments, the borrower should only be responsible for the original loan amount. If the debt is $20,000, then that's what is left to pay with ten years' worth of monthly payments at $167 (rounded off to the nearest dollar amount) per month. If three consecutive payments are late, then add an extra monthly payment to the amount.
