The purpose of the September 11 economic injury disaster loan program was to help small businesses continue operating after the September 11, 2001 attacks until business returned to normal. For many small business, a return to normal never happened, and they were forced to close their businesses. More than a decade later, these citizens are forced to relive those events by writing large checks to the SBA. Many lost their homes to foreclosure, have had their wages garnished, and can't send their children to school because they can't pay the SBA. It's time for America to recognize these small business for their courage and sacrifice in the months and years following the 9/11 attacks by forgiving the outstanding debt or by releasing them from their personal guarantees of the disaster loan.
