Student loan balances up to $17,000 are currently being forgiven for educuators serving 5 years or more at Title One schools if they took out the loan after 1998, etc. Please allow more loan forgiveness opportunities to educators who may have:
1. consolidated their loans
2. have been chipping away at payments beyond current deadlines or timelines
3. been teaching in good faith and serving disadvantaged student populations for five years or more
Student loan re-payment is an increased financial burden on educators. It is the main reason a majority of them stay in their jobs and can become a disheartening factor when innovation, mobility, and risk-taking is called for at an institution. Teachers may be too afraid to strive for excellence due to fear of job loss/making waves.
