The violence in our homes, our neighborhoods and our nation is a threat to our freedom. I suspect this is a larger threat to personal freedom than external threats. I propose a commission be formed to investigate why our prisons are overcrowded but not solving the problem of violence. What are the root causes? Can we, as a society, begin to address these causes?
Such a commission should be made up of sociologists, psychiatrists, police representatives and educators.
