formally abandon the Imperial system and encourage the full metrication of the United States within the next decade

The United States is one of three countries that has not formally converted to the International System of Measures (SI). Not only is the metric system easier to understand than our outdated, mediaeval measurement system, but the adoption of the International System of Measures will enable the United States to engage more competitively in the global economy.
A complete conversion to SI can be accomplished gradually throughout a 10-year period. As school textbooks are reprinted, they should exclusively utilize the metric system for the education of America's youth so as to properly prepare them to compete in a modern, globalized world.
Although initially conversion may be rather costly, the switch-over to SI will, in the long run, benefit America economically.
