Apologizing for the colonization and theft of Native American land, genocide of Native Americans, and forced relocation of Native American tribes; as well as the ongoing racial, cultural, economic, political, and environmental discrimination against Native Americans and Alaska Natives. Indigenous peoples of the United States have endured over five centuries of oppression, dispossession, and marginalization. There are myriad injustices that have been endured by Native American peoples, which need to be recognized and apologized for by the US government. If a formal apology were administered, with a re-commitment to upholding the United States' promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, it would create a foundation upon which future reconciliation may occur.
