The recently uncovered NSA PRISM program represents a clear overstepping of the federal government's constitutional power under the Fourth Amendment. The President of the United States should make a televised, formal apology to the nation. He should then back up the apology with legislation presented to Congress making warrantless searches and seizures, such as the ones present in the PRISM program, irrefutably illegal. Additionally, the President should direct the NSA and any other federal or state entity conducting similar programs to cease and desist immediately, under penalty of law. The President should make clear that, despite the effectiveness of such programs, they are unequivocally un-American, and they do not live up to the ideals which have served our country so well thus far.
