This petition is being formed in light of recent events wherein Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas State Guard to oversee military training operations due to fear that the US government would be establishing martial law over the state. Texas has had a long history of similarly absurd thoughts, reactions, and policies, from attempting to relabel slaves in their school textbooks as unpaid interns, to repeated instances of violating the separation of church and state, to having a higher usage of the death penalty than any other state.
This behavior is an embarrassment to the United States as portrayed to the rest of the world, and we the people should not have to suffer the indignities of their ignorance and intolerance any further.
