On June 18th, 1971 Richard Milhous Nixon enacted a policy that changed the narrative of the American government about illicit substances. He created a policy that gave law enforcement agencies the capability to create a formal global war on drugs. The America has waged a 44 year long conflict against addicts, traffickers, producers, and gangs that fuel the economy of the unlawful trade.
Nixon has been proven to be an untrustworthy president after the release of his personal recordings that directly implicate him in the congressional investigation formally know as the Watergate Scandal. The Obama administration should abolish the previous policy against drugs and re-evaluate America's view on drugs and punishment against drug offenders. We the people need to formally end the war on drugs.
