Whereas collegiate football is a popular sport in the United States and is a cultural institution; whereas the Bowl Championship Series National Championship game in Miami, Florida on Monday the 7th of January 2013 features The University of Alabama playing Notre Dame; whereas The University of Alabama and Notre Dame have two of the most storied collegiate football teams in history; whereas Notre Dame is one of the most prolific and visible Catholic universities in the United States; whereas the head coach of The University of Alabama Nick Saban is a member of the Catholic faith; whereas Pope Benedict XVI serves as the leader of the Catholic Church; resolved, that the United States Department of State should officially invite Pope Benedict XVI to the BCS National Championship game.
