The KKK has lynched a multitude of black people, they burn crosses, and they publicly threaten death or other physical harm upon black people - that is terrorism. The very definition of terrorism confirms that: terrorism - the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
The KKK uses the "freedom of speech" excuse to defend hate speech and violent threats, none of which are protected by the first amendment. The KKK terrorizes people, most notably the black community, and hinders progress for blacks as a whole through oppression and threats.
