The Kurds have been our most effective asset in the ground war against Islamic State since 2014. In addition to their military gains, they have expressed hope in establishing a sovereign state of their own, having been on the brink of annihilation by both ISIS and the Hussein regime before. Recently, in Syria, they have been the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the only effective moderate coalition in operation. However, Sec. Of State John Kerry has hung the Kurds out to dry, allowing US air support for a Turkish incursion explicitly intended to wipe out the Kurds. This is a danger to both our mission against Islamic State and Western special operations teams working with the SDF. It's time to cut ties with Turkey, a country accusing us of inciting a coup, and back a real ally.
