Although the entire populations of both Iraq and Syria are threatened by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), religious minorities such as Christians are being targeted by ISIS for ultimate conversion or extermination. An estimated 1 to 1.8 million Christians have already been slaughtered or displaced in the region. Historically speaking, the United States has rarely recognized genocide and responded to these events with precious little action and very often too late at that. Classifying these atrocities as genocide will be a proper precursor to appropriate diplomatic, economic, humanitarian and, if needed, military action. Lives are being lost and urgency couldn't be greater....there is no better or more valid reason to act.
