We The People petition the Obama administration to formally remove the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) as the National bird of the United States.
As New Hampshire state representative Warren Groen (R - Rochester) stated of a proposed bill to initiate the red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) as the state raptor:
"It grasps them with its talons then uses its razor sharp beak to basically tear it apart limb by limb, and I guess the shame about making this a state bird is it would serve as a much better mascot for Planned Parenthood."
As the bald eagle performs primarily the same predatory functions, we petition the Obama administration to end this chronically undeserving symbol of our nation, and give it a more fitting title.
