The purpose of this website is to provide a modern and accessible means to express a citizen's concerns to the U.S. government. According to the signature policies of this website, once the threshold has been exceeded, it has merited a formal response.
There is currently an open petition regarding the hate group status of the Westboro Baptist Church (see "popular petitions"). This petition has garnered over 300,000 signatures, well surpassing the amount needed to warrant an answer regarding the issue.
I am not asking for more support for the Westboro petition, however, I am asking for a formal response to it. It is shameful to see that a petition regarding a fictional space station, which amassed merely one-tenth of the Westboro signatures, is considered to be a more important issue.
