Over the past decade, more than 200,000 young people have left foster care when they turned 18. Many of these young people don't have a stable support system so they end up homeless or become dependent on a system that wasn't meant for them. The current child welfare system's use of foster care or group homes is not set up to teach these young people the skills they need to ensure that they suceed when they enter adulthood and are no longer able to stay in foster care.
Help our children tranisition into adulthood when they're ready by extending foster care to 23 years of age. Give our young people a chance to finish college, learn to support themselves, learn from life experiences and be sucessful.
