This petition is to request that the White House initiate debate to hopefully lead to legislative action to change our electoral process. It is increasingly evident that the current system is flawed and rife with control by special interest groups that may corrupt the process.
I propose that we move to elections that are federally funded and capped according to electoral size. This would also be accompanied by time limits for campaigning and rules about equal time dedicated to each campaign. Electoral campaigns are too long and typically revert to negative tactics when the time for platform formation has concluded. With our current abilities to spread information, there is no excuse for candidates to provide arguments for their inclusion in government in a timely manner.
