Hydraulic fracturing, the propagation of fractures in a rock layer as a result of the action of a pressurized fluid, creates conduits along which gas and petroleum from source rocks can flow, is a technique used to release petroleum, natural gas (including shale gas, tight gas, and coal seam gas), or other substances for extraction. This process uses millions of gallons of water per day and and pumps thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals into the ground. There is mounting evidence that these chemicals are being consumed and inhaled by livestock resulting in death, illness, and deformaties. There is no current information as to whether or not these chemicals are building up in milk or meat and being sold to humans for consumption.
