Stop the progression of landfills throughout the country by granting the US EPA authority to oversee siting and enforce violations with authority to stop expansions with closure.
Citizens throughout the United States are being affected greatly by corporations purchasing multiple acres to establish mammoth landfills. These entities are accepting wastes which fill the air with hydrogen sulfide gas emanating for miles. The landfills are placed in areas greatly affecting residents, small businesses, nursing homes, schools, churches, athletic fields, and playgrounds without regard to the wetlands, floodplains, aquatic creatures, wildlife, wildflowers, or quality of life being destroyed. States have been granted regulatory authority, but it would appear money clouds their judgment.
