Leonard Peltier was jailed on false charges. He was held on spurious charges, including coerced testimonies (which were later recanted), The FBI tied them to chairs, denied them their right for legal representation and threatened them. The FBI tampered with evidence. There is no ballistics evidence that Peltier, in fact, later testing proved that the cartridge case found at the scene did NOT come from any gun owned by Peltier.
He was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in April, 1977. He has been held in jail for 36 years. Barring appeals, parole, or presidential pardon, he will likely be released in 2024, when he will be 96 years old.
This is a travesty that must finally be addressed!
