Free Meriam Ibrahim, a Sudanese Christian and expecting mother sentenced to death for leaving Islam

Created by R.F. on May 22, 2014

On Thursday, May 15, Sudanese Christian Meriam Yahya Ibrahim, 27, was sentenced to death by hanging for the crime of apostasy. Ibrahim, a physician who graduated from the University of Khartoum Medical School, refused to renounce her Christian faith. Ibrahim is married to Daniel Wani, an American citizen from South Sudan who came to the United States in 1998. She is in her ninth month of pregnancy with the couple’s second child. The U.S. State Department must ensure that the Sudanese government follow international human rights law and release Meriam, her unborn child, and her incarcerated 20-month-old toddler son, Martin, a U.S. citizen and grant Daniel Wani a spousal visa to bring his bride to the safety of the United States.
