Oscar López Rivera, a 70 year-old Puerto Rican nationalist, has been held prisioner for more than 30 years under the charge of seditious conspiracy. He is among the longest held political prisoners in the world.
Even former President Bill Clinton believes that the sentence is out of proportion with the offenses.
López Rivera has endured imprisonment under conditions that the House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Administration of Justice have criticized as to be in violation of the U.N. Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.
This man has repaid his debt to society---and more. It is time for Oscar López Rivera to return home.
