Oscar López-Rivera is a political prisoner of the United States of America, and one of the longest-held political prisoners in the world.
López was convicted of conspiring against the government of the United States.
López Rivera fought in the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star. He was a well-respected community activist. worked in the creation of both the Puerto Rican High School and the Puerto Rican Cultural Center. He worked on ending discrimination in public utilities.
Nobel laureates, Puerto Rican leaders, the American Association of Jurists, the AFL-CIO, the United Church of Christ, members of Congress, and the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, have called for his release.
