Political prisoner Oscar López Rivera has served more than 33 years in a federal prison, 12 of which have been in solitary confinement, convicted of seditious conspiracy, though he was not accused or convicted of causing bodily harm to anyone or taking a life. Serving a sentence of 70 years, he is among the longest held political prisoners in the history of the U.S. and the World.
There is a wide consensus in Puerto Rico and the U.S. that he should be released. His liberation is also being demanded by leaders of several nations, Nobel Peace prize winners, religious, labor, business, civic and artistic leaders, and international human rights coalitions.
Mr. President, 33 years is more than enough! Commute Oscar López Rivera’s sentence now and immediately release him from prison!
