There is an alliance with tax preparation companies that make it costly and time consuming for tax payers to prepare and file taxes. This alliance is called the Free File Alliance.
The IRS has had, for over a decade, the capability to prepare tax documents that would eliminate the need for time consuming manual tax preparation and also eliminate third-party costs. Tax preparation could be free and take only five minutes to review and complete.
According to President Obama, the Free File Alliance costs tax payers 200 million total hours of work and $2 billion dollars a year.
This petition would call an end to the Free File Alliance and allow the IRS to prepare tax documents for tax payers.
