On the morning of 27 June, Ms Newsome, with the assistance of Mr Tyson to document the event, climbed up the infamous flagpole on the grounds of the South Carolina Capitol which defiantly still flies the colors of the Confederacy - traitors to the United States under the US Constitution.
She tore down that hated symbol of centuries of racist oppression, an act that the cowardly governor of the state would not do even when your friend, a state senator of color, had his cortege pass under it.
They both have been arrested, and to add insult to injury, the Traitor's Flag was put up in time for a white supremacist rally.
