Freedom of choosing Browser, Maps and other apps across mobile devices irrespective of manufacturer or service providers

Created by N.G. on March 04, 2013

Currently Smartphone and Tablet manufacturers and/or service providers default a specific preferred application for basic functions like Maps (Navigation), Internet Browser etc. For example, if I select an address inside a browser or email etc on my iPhone, it forces me to use a substandard Apple Maps rather than letting me if I choose Google Maps or another navigational app.

Similarly any link I click opens it in Safari without providing customer a choice to use another browser of their choice.

This seems very similar to the browser monopoly that was forced by Microsoft in 90's until federal authorities forced them to present choice to the customer.

I see today's mobile devices (smaprtphones, tablets) equivalent of a computer in 90's. Thus, it may be right time to provide this choice.
