The United States has sent Israel approximately $3 billion yearly in economic and military aid.
Although this money is not intended to be used for settlement construction in East Jerusalem and the West Bank (policies the United States explicitly opposes) it is in fact fungible within the overall Israeli budget we are making it easier for Israel to find other funds to spend on the construction of new settlements.
We, the undersigned believe that settlement construction in these areas makes any future peace agreement less likely as the settlements strike at the territorial integrity and viability of any proposed Palestinian state. We also believe that American funds should not be used to support the economy of Israel while Israel is spending money building settlements on the West Bank.
