Members of Congress are public figures that should be held to a higher standard. Because the public has deemed these individuals qualified enough to ensure that the public's best interest is their highest priority; they are given unchecked authority to agree upon public funds distribution in a timely manner. There is currently no recourse for not meeting the established fiscal year deadline. A continuing resolution does not hold those tasked with the responsibility of determining an appropriate financial path for the nation accountable.
Simply withholding government pay will only allow those with the greatest assets to determine budgetary concerns. The public is not served well by allowing those who are failing in their responsibilities to be left unaccountable.
