Freeze pay for Congress until an annual, comprehensive budget is passed.

Created by L.K. on March 06, 2013

Congress is not immune from the effect of their decisions, and their pay should be sequestered along with the budgets and pay of Americans.

Congress is required by law, under the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, to pass a spending plan reviewed by the Congressional Budget Office and sent to the president. Section 300 provides a timetable to ensure that Congress completes budgetary legislation by the start of the fiscal year on October 1. The last budget bill approved was April 2009; technically just an “omnibus spending bill”. The last time a full budget was signed into law was 1997.

That none of this happens suggests a level of disrespect for the law and the people that Congress serves. We petition to freeze Congressional pay until a comprehensive annual budget is sent to the president
