fulfill his 2007 campaign promise requiring mandatory labeling of products containing genetically modified food (GMOs).

During the 2007 campaign, President Obama promised that when in office he would immediately require labeling on processed foods containing GMOs "because Americans should know what they're buying."

A 2010 Thomson Reuters PULSE Healthcare Survey poll found that 93 percent of US consumers support the labeling of GMOs. Despite these findings, and President Obama’s promise during his presidential campaign to push for labeling, the US government has refused to allow labels for GMO food to appear on grocery shelves in America.

In so doing, the government has denied us the right to control what we eat. GMOs have already been banned in many foreign countries which speaks volumes.
