The Appalachian region of the United States of America has a rich and unique history which includes the act of making moonshine. Moonshining, the act of producing and then selling whiskey without the proper taxes being collected, is a federal crime. Popcorn Sutton committed this crime as this was part of his culture. Considering that moonshining is a cultural tradition, it was wrong that Mr. Sutton was punished for honoring a cultural tradition which went back in his family and many mountain families for generations. Sadly, Mr. Sutton chose to take his own life than to serve the prison sentence given to him for his crime. President Obama should issue a presidential pardon to Popcorn Sutton so that his offence does not tarnish the legacy of this great American legend.
