We urge you, President Obama, to stop the persecution and prosecution of Assata Shakur aka Joanne Chesimard by granting her a full, complete, and irrevocable pardon for any of her alleged and / or actual crimes prior to and including 5 May 2013. We further request that the government stop harassing her and allow her to live freely back in the United States as a free woman.
This is important because she currently lives in political asylum in Cuba instead of being with her family, speaking freely, and exercising her first amendment rights without repercussion. She has been living in asylum due to fabricated charges against her because the government felt threatened by her exercising her freedom of speech. She is innocent of the accused crimes and the government needs to recognize that.
