The United States Coast Guard's missions all boil down to one feature: work directly for the people, economy, and protection of the United States. Yet they are still using boats that served during the Vietnam war. Frequently they go short handed, underfunded, underappreciated, and yet keep getting more and more responsibility. With the other two wars winding down it is time to start focusing on the services that actually serve our citizens. The expectation of doing more with less will undermine the safety of those who serve and lowers mission readiness. For once, let's get this service where they belong. It is amazing what they are capable of doing with so little. What would they be like when they have what they need to actually complete all their missions?
