President Obama has declared that his administration will "look forwards, not backwards" as a way of saying that those Bush administration officials who knowingly allowed or even ordered torture, unlawful detainment, domestic spying and other crimes should not be prosecuted. This is a short-sighted strategy, however, because the precedent this sets means that our children will live in a country in which justice is no longer blind.
