Merissa Alexander of Jacksonville, FL was convicted of protecting herself, standing her ground from an abusive husband, who brutally attacked, harmed and phyically abused her during her pregnancy. Her injuries were recorded during her visits to the hospital emergency. So on this fateful day, her husband had the intent to physically abuse her. At one point, Merissa held a gun and fired a warning shot above the man who once said that he would kill her. Ultimately, Marissa was charge, convicted and now serving 20 years for protecting herself. It's surreal that a murderer in an earlier case received 15 years, but Marissa received 20 for killing a ceiling. Prosecuter claimed that they offered a plea deal that Marissa refused, 3 years felony conviction and lose of child custody. Not a plea deal.
