We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Fund Center for Disease Control and Prevention research in to the causes and prevention of gun violence in the USA.

Created by M.D. on June 15, 2016

The CDC has not touched firearm research in a meaningful way since 1996 — when the NRA accused the agency of promoting gun control and Congress threatened to strip the agency’s funding. Meaningful research has not resumed in spite of President Obama's 2015 order to start research on the subject. “It is possible for us to conduct firearm-related research within the context of our efforts to address youth violence, domestic violence, sexual violence, and suicide,” CDC spokeswoman Courtney Lenard wrote, “but our resources are very limited.” Public health research has contributed to significant policy questions in the past such as car safety and health implications of tobacco use. Congress must fund this research.
