Construction on Mount Rushmore began in 1927. The original design depicted each of the Presidents from head to waist, but a lack of funding halted construction on the memorial in late October 1941. Mount Rushmore has since stood as an iconic tribute to the early history of this great country, attracting nearly 3 million tourists annually. On behalf of all Americans, let's come together and petition for federal funding toward the completion of this historical landmark.
