Through the recent advances in 3D printer technology, building things on the moon could be simple and require little man power. Entire structures could be made remotely through NASA headquarters. These buildings could be pressurized and support habitation if given a steady food/water supply. It is much cheaper to launch spacecraft from the moon and requires less fuel, allows for bigger spacecraft etc. space is a great source of natural resources such as ice and metals. Extracting these things from moons or asteroids by private companies would allow preservation of earth and a great increase in US economy. The idea that the capability to sustain humans in space is 50 years away will always be 50 years away unless we start today. Let US companies put space to good use.
