Climate change is causing devastating weather and natural disasters to occur with greater frequency, different building options that have only barely been explored may hold the key to creating entire communities that are "disaster-proof". I propose funding a series of building experiments, small scale and with an eye toward cost reduction, in an ecologically devastated region of the U.S., in this way land can be reclaimed for human use, future technologies for dealing with resource scarcity can be developed and, finally, the knowledge gained would be invaluable to colonization efforts in space.
