If you search "Gifted student research" you will find links sharing the needs of these students. As a parent I started gathering information when my daughter was identified. I was surprised to read services are not mandated and most were poorly underfunded. Our country is falling behind the rest of the world in education and yet we do not feel a need to address the top tier? The social and emotional needs of these students are lacking in attention as well. The biggest surprise was to find out the majority of gifted students are from families in the poverty range.
